PT-RehabEd-Spasticity Assessment in the Neurological Client 2024

This 2-hour virtual course will provide participants with the knowledge and skill set necessary to understand and assess the spasticity seen post central nervous system damage.  The course will review the definition and recent evidence regarding the prevalence and assessment of limb spasticity as it pertains to adults with Stroke, TBI, SCI, MS and other CNS disorders causing spasticity.  Through the use of pre-recorded patient video, participants will learn signs and symptoms common to spasticity during active movement.  Therapeutic assessment of patient spasticity will also be demonstrated with the use of video of passive assessment techniques for all the typically involved UE and LE musculature.  This course is also designed to provide participants with the knowledge of the current medical interventions used to address spasticity and the role of therapy post spasticity management.

1. 1. Identify key signs and symptoms during patient observation to help guide further spasticity assessment.
2. 2. Identify the optimal passive ROM assessments to identify limb spasticity.
3. 3. Explain the observational findings from both active and passive testing to communicate patient spasticity concerns to physician.
4. 4. Demonstrate knowledge of treatment options for spasticity management.
5. 5. Demonstrate knowledge of precautions and side effects of each evidence based spasticity treatment.
