COURSE DESCRIPTION: This advanced course will be 3 days in length and will provide participants with the opportunity to further develop problem solving and clinical decision-making skills as well as handling strategies for the remediation of functional activities in individuals with neuromuscular disorders.  This course will focus on exploring individual patient goal(s), identifying functional activity limitations and impairments that impact performance of the goal(s).  A variety of handling skills will be practiced to assist the individual in meeting his/her goal(s).  This course will include lecture, handling and movement labs, problem solving and patient demonstrations by the instructor(s).  Demonstrations will be interactive to provide opportunities for discussion regarding impairments, and treatment strategies that impact the individual’s function. There will be an opportunity to also explore other tasks, environments and handling strategies to provide a repertoire of treatment options the participant can use in their own clinical practice. This course provides an alternative mechanism of advanced learning for therapists who have completed a NDTA Contemporary Practice Model Certificate Course in the Management of Adults with Stroke and Brain Injury or a NDTA Contemporary Practice Model Certificate Course in the Management of Children with Cerebral Palsy or Other Neuromuscular Disorders. This course does not include hands-on evaluation/treatment of patients by participants.
