Point of care ultrasound (POCUS) is a tool used by hospitalists across the nation to answer specific diagnostic questions and to guide performance and safety of invasive bedside procedures. This OhioHealth sponsored POCUS course is designed to teach the basics of bedside cardiac, pulmonary, abdominal, and vascular ultrasonography.


Objectives
After completion of this activity, participants will be able to:

  1. 1. Identify normal structures seen on lung/pleural ultrasound.
  2. 2. Recognize the basic semiology of lung ultrasound: A-lines, B-lines, lung sliding, lung point, and pleural effusion characteristics.
  3. 3. Identify basic pathologic states: pneumothorax, alveolar consolidation, pulmonary edema, and complex and simple pleural effusions.
