This one-day course will focus on non-pharmacological and evidence-based approaches for care of persons with dementia (PWD) across multiple disciplines, to include disease symptoms, behaviors, and care needs throughout disease progression. The risks and benefits of commonly prescribed medications, as well as alternative approaches to medication compliance and administration, will be discussed. We will discuss management of behaviors and alternatives to risky medications. Hospice team members will speak to the complexity of hospice care with end stage dementia and other comorbidities. In addition, different levels of care will be described and defined.


ACCME Objectives
  1. Define dementia and the dementia disease continuum.
  2. Discuss the utility and limitations of Alzheimer Disease (AD) biomarkers and anti-amyloid therapies.
  3. Identify safety risks for individuals with dementia.
  4. Identify scams.
  5. Describe the difference between Alzheimer's and Dementia.
  6. Explain how to utilize available products to maximize outcomes for persons with dementia and minimize stress of their caregivers.
