PT-RehabEd-COPD and CHF for Acute Care Rehab Professionals

The intention of this presentation is to provide education and guidelines to physical, occupational, and speech therapists on how to evaluate and treat patients diagnosed with CHF and COPD. There will be a brief overview of each disease process, including prevalence, risk factors, pathophysiology, and medical management. Each therapy discipline will then present evidenced-based guidance on chart review, evaluation techniques, and treatment interventions/considerations that will be applicable to patients with COPD and CHF. There will be a focus on training patients in self-advocacy for chronic disease symptom management.

1. 1. The learner will understand disease processes of heart failure and COPD.
2. 2. The learner will identify effective assessment and treatment strategies to implement with these patient populations.
3. 3. The learner will be able to effectively educate patients on self-advocacy and disease symptom management.
4. 4. The learner will be able to appropriately complete a chart review to identify pertinent information or lab values related to heart failure and COPD.
