Point of care ultrasound (POCUS) is a tool used by hospitalists across the nation to answer specific diagnostic questions and to guide performance and safety of invasive bedside procedures. This OhioHealth sponsored POCUS course is designed to teach the basics of bedside cardiac, pulmonary, abdominal, and vascular ultrasonography.



Objectives
After completion of this activity, participants will be able to:

  1. 1. Apply the fundamental principles of ultrasound technology and demonstrate basic understanding of portable ultrasound machine.
  2. 2. Recognize the clinical indications, utility, and limitations for basic point of care ultrasound (POCUS) examination
  3. 3. Perform targeted cardiac, pulmonary, abdominal, and vascular US exams at bedside
  4. 4. Demonstrate US techniques to guide bedside procedures; specifically paracentesis, thoracentesis, arthrocentesis, central venous line, and lumbar puncture
  5. 5. Practice interpretation of normal and abnormal ultrasound images
