Dr. O’Mara is the Clinical Vice President of Surgery for the OhioHealth Clinical Enterprise. Prior to his role, he was the System Chief of Trauma Services. Dr. O’Mara additionally is a Clinical Associate Professor of General Surgery at the Ohio University Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine.

 

He completed medical school at the University of Iowa College of Medicine (1997). Dr. O’Mara went on to complete his internship at the University of Iowa Hospital and Clinical (1998) in Family Practice and his residency at Western Pennsylvania Hospital (2003) in General Surgery. Following residency, he completed fellowships at the University of California, Davis (2004) in Critical Care Surgery and Shriners Hospital for Children (2005) in General Surgery. In 2012, Dr. O’Mara continued his education by earning a Master of Business Administration from the Auburn University College of Business.

 

Dr. O’Mara is certified by the American Board of Surgery (2005) and subspecialty of Surgical Critical Care (2005). He is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons and a member of several societies and associations including the American Association for the Surgery of Trauma, Trauma Center Association of America, Association for Academic Surgery and the Society of Critical Care Medicine to name a few.

 

In addition to his profession and academic work, Dr. O’Mara is also an Ad Hoc Reviewer for the Journal of Burn Care and Research, Journal of Trauma and Acute Care Surgery and JAMA Surgery. He is a member of the Editorial Board for the Journal of Surgical Research and Editor of the International Journal of Academic Medicine.

 

Dr. O’Mara is committed to life-long learning. He has published almost 50 articles and 10 abstracts and has presented at many conferences throughout the United States and around the world including Israel, Canada, Portugal, Greece and France.
